Hello students, welcome to Kwickprep. Can a country grow richer without making its air dirtier? For a long time, people thought no. Today we will learn what a green economy is, how it works, and the important role it plays for India and the world.
Let us start with a simple word. An economy is all the ways a country produces goods and services. It also includes how people buy, sell and earn money. An economy that depends mostly on coal, oil and gas, and creates heavy pollution, is sometimes called a brown economy.
Now the main idea. The United Nations Environment Programme describes a green economy as one that improves human well-being and social equity, which means fairness. At the same time, it greatly reduces environmental risks and the loss of natural resources. In simple words, it is low carbon, uses resources efficiently, and includes everyone in its benefits.
Let us compare the two. A brown economy runs mainly on coal and oil, while a green economy uses solar and wind energy. In a brown economy waste is thrown away, while a green economy reuses and recycles it. Pollution is high in one and low in the other. Transport in a brown economy uses petrol and diesel, while a green economy prefers electric and public transport. And a green economy tries to share its benefits with everyone, not just a few people.
What role does a green economy play? First, it protects the environment. It cuts greenhouse gases and pollution from factories and vehicles. It protects forests, water and soil. And so it helps the world fight climate change.
Second, a green economy creates new jobs, called green jobs. Workers are needed to build and run solar and wind power plants. The electric vehicle and battery industry needs engineers and mechanics. Recycling and waste management need collectors, sorters and managers. Organic farming and eco-tourism also create jobs, especially in villages.
Third, a green economy saves money and makes a country stronger. Using energy and raw materials efficiently cuts costs for businesses. When a country makes its own clean power, it spends less on importing oil and gas. Cleaner air means fewer illnesses and lower health costs. And protecting forests and wetlands reduces damage from floods and storms.
Fourth, a green economy is inclusive, which means it includes everyone. Clean cooking fuel, instead of wood smoke, protects the health of women and children. Solar power can bring electricity to remote villages far from the grid. And local green projects give fair jobs to people who live nearby.
Let us look at India's main green steps. The National Solar Mission, started in two thousand ten, grows solar power across India. The National Green Hydrogen Mission supports hydrogen made using clean energy, as a fuel for industry. The PM E-DRIVE scheme, which followed the earlier FAME scheme, supports electric vehicles. And India has promised to reach net zero emissions by twenty seventy.
Every citizen is part of the green economy. When you buy, choose energy saving products, like five star rated appliances. Support local and eco-friendly businesses. Learn skills that green jobs need, like solar installation or data analysis. And spread awareness in your family and neighbourhood.
Let us revise what we learned today. A green economy is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive. A brown economy relies on polluting fuels like coal and oil. A green economy protects nature, creates jobs and saves money. It also shares its benefits with everyone. And India is building it through solar power, green hydrogen, electric vehicles, and a net zero target for twenty seventy.
