What is a green job?
| A job that helps protect or restore the environment |
| Reduces pollution, waste and use of energy |
| Also a decent job: fair pay, safe work |
Green jobs in many sectors
| Sector | Green job | Helps by |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | Solar technician | Clean power |
| Transport | EV mechanic | Less smoke |
| Agriculture | Organic farmer | No harmful sprays |
| Waste | Recycling worker | Less landfill |
| Construction | Green architect | Saves energy |
| Water | Rainwater harvester | Saves water |
Why green jobs matter: planet
| Reduce greenhouse gases that cause climate change |
| Cut air, water and soil pollution |
| Protect forests, rivers and wildlife |
| Use natural resources carefully |
Why green jobs matter: people
| Create new jobs as the economy changes |
| Better health from cleaner air and water |
| Income in villages: solar, organic farming |
| Safer and fairer working conditions |
Why green jobs matter: economy
| Save money on energy and raw materials |
| Less import of oil and coal |
| New industries: solar, electric vehicles, recycling |
| Help India meet its climate goals |
Green job or not?
| Job | Green? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Solar panel fitter | Yes | Clean energy |
| Coal truck driver | No | Burns fossil fuel |
| E-waste recycler | Yes | Recovers metals |
| Tree nursery worker | Yes | Grows forests |
Quick answers
Is a coal truck driver a green job?
No. It depends on burning fossil fuel.
Name a green job in waste.

Hello students, welcome to Kwickprep. Can your future job help protect the earth? Yes, it can. Today we will learn what green jobs are, where they are found, and why they are so important for India and the world.
Let us start with the meaning. A green job is any job that helps protect or restore the environment. It may reduce pollution, cut waste, or save energy and water. The International Labour Organization also says a green job must be decent work, with fair pay and safe conditions.
Green jobs are found in almost every sector. In energy, a solar technician installs panels that make clean power. In transport, an electric vehicle mechanic keeps vehicles running without exhaust smoke. In agriculture, an organic farmer grows food without harmful chemical sprays. In waste management, recycling workers keep rubbish out of landfills. In construction, a green architect designs buildings that need less electricity. In water conservation, workers build rainwater harvesting systems.
The first reason green jobs are important is the planet. Greenhouse gases are gases like carbon dioxide that trap heat and warm the earth, and green jobs help reduce them. They cut pollution of air, water and soil. They protect forests, rivers and animals. And they help us use natural resources carefully, so they last longer.
Green jobs are important for people too. As the world moves to clean energy, millions of new jobs are being created. Cleaner air and water mean fewer illnesses and lower medical bills. Many green jobs, like solar pump repair and organic farming, bring income to villages. And because green jobs must be decent work, they aim for safe and fair workplaces.
Green jobs also help the economy. Businesses save money when they use less energy and fewer raw materials. When India makes more of its own solar and wind power, it needs to import less oil and coal. Whole new industries are growing, like solar panels, electric vehicles and recycling. These jobs help India reach its climate goals, including net zero emissions by twenty seventy.
Pause and predict before the explanation. A solar panel fitter is a green job, because it supports clean energy. A driver carrying coal is not usually a green job, because coal is a fossil fuel that pollutes. An e-waste recycler is green, because old phones and computers give back useful metals safely. A tree nursery worker is green, because young plants become new forests.
You can start building green skills today. Save electricity and water at home and in school. Read about how solar energy and recycling work. Use your computer skills to record and study energy or waste data. Later, you can choose courses in renewable energy, environmental science or green building.
Here is a simple example of a green career. Ravi completes an ITI course in electrical work after Class 10. He then trains to install solar panels, which are also called solar PV systems. He fits rooftop panels on homes in his town. Families save on electricity bills, Ravi earns well, and the air stays cleaner.
Let us revise what we learned today. A green job protects the environment and is also decent work. Green jobs exist in energy, transport, farming, waste and construction. They are good for the planet, because they reduce pollution and greenhouse gases. They are good for people and the economy, through new jobs, better health and savings. And you can start building green skills right now.
