Hello students, welcome to Kwickprep. Your school project needs slides with a title, a nice background, your school name and slide numbers. How do you add all of these? Today we will learn to edit and format a slide in presentation software.
First, some basics. A presentation is a set of pages called slides, shown one after another on a screen. LibreOffice Impress is a free presentation software. Microsoft PowerPoint is a paid one. Google Slides is free and works online.
Let us understand how a slide is organised. Every slide has a layout, which is the arrangement of boxes on it. The Title Slide layout has a title box and a subtitle box. The Title and Content layout has a title box and a bigger box for text. These dotted boxes are called placeholders, and you click inside one to type.
Let us add a title and subtitle to the first slide. Here are the steps. Click the box that says click to add title, and type the main topic. Then click the second box and type the subtitle, which gives extra details. For example, the title is Water Conservation, and the subtitle is By Riya, class nine A.
Now we add a slide with text. Click New Slide, or press Control plus M in PowerPoint, to add a slide. Type your points in the content placeholder. Press Enter to start the next bullet point. If you want text in some other place, use Insert, Text Box, and draw a box anywhere.
Slide text is edited and formatted just like a document. Select the text, then make it bold, italic or underlined. Change the font type, the size and the colour. Align it left, centre or right. Keep only five or six short points on a slide, so the audience can read quickly.
The background is the area behind everything on a slide. You change it from the slide properties or Format Background option. A colour fill uses one solid colour. A gradient fill blends two colours smoothly. An image fill puts a picture behind the slide, like a river photo for a water project.
After choosing a background, you decide where it goes. You can apply it to the current slide only. Or you can apply it to all slides, so the whole presentation matches. Always check that the text is still easy to read on top of it.
A watermark is faint text or a picture placed behind the slide content. For example, your school logo or the word Draft. The slide master is a hidden main slide that controls the design of all slides. So add the watermark on the slide master, from the View menu, and it appears on every slide. Make it light, or transparent, so the main text stays clear.
Headers and footers are lines of text that repeat on slides. A header is set for notes and handouts, like the school name. A footer sits at the bottom, like the project title. The date can also be shown in the footer area, written as D D dash M M dash Y Y Y Y. On slides, most software gives footer boxes, not a header box.
Here are the steps to add a footer and slide numbers. Click Insert, then Header and Footer. Tick the Footer box and type your text. Tick the Slide number box, so every slide shows its number. Finally, click Apply to All, so these appear on every slide.
Pause and predict. You add a watermark to slide three only, but you wanted it on all ten slides. What went wrong? It was added on a normal slide, not on the slide master. Put it on the master, and every slide shows it.
Let us revise what we learned today. Type titles, subtitles and text inside placeholders. Format slide text with bold, italic, underline, fonts and alignment. A background can be a colour, a gradient or an image. A watermark is faint text or a logo, best added on the slide master. Use Insert, Header and Footer to add a footer, the date and slide numbers.
