Why do pixel values stop at 255?
Short answer. Eight bits give 256 values, 0 to 255.
What makes yellow?
Red plus green.

Why do pixel values stop there? Eight bits give two fifty six values. Greyscale runs zero to two fifty five. RGB uses three values. Red plus green makes yellow. Zero is black, two fifty five white. Colour uses three.
