Exam pattern
Total 100 marks: Theory 60 marks (external) + Practical 40 marks. Theory paper is split into Part A Employability Skills (10 marks) and Part B Subject Specific Skills (50 marks: RDBMS 15, Web Based Applications 10, Java 20, Work Integrated Learning 5). Practical 40 marks: Java Program (10), SQL Queries - table creation plus 5 queries (10), Practical File (10), Viva Voce (5), and Project made in Java NetBeans (5).
Practical / project
40-mark practical assessment. Hands-on lab work with MySQL and Java NetBeans. Students must maintain a practical file containing a minimum of 15 Java programs and 15 MySQL queries. A project (any application built using the Java NetBeans IDE) and a viva voce are also assessed. Class XII carries a total of 260 instructional hours across theory and practical.

Why study Information Technology?
CBSE Class 12 Information Technology (Code 802) carries a board-friendly 60 marks theory and 40 marks practical split, which means consistent practice can convert it into a high-scoring subject. The Java programming, RDBMS and MySQL foundations built here are genuine industry skills that also overlap heavily with Computer Science, making them valuable for any technology-oriented stream. Because nearly half the marks come from practical work, a project file and viva, students who get proper hands-on guidance and regular coding practice are well placed to maximise their percentage. A strong Class 12 IT score both lifts the overall aggregate and creates a solid base for engineering, BCA, B.Sc IT and other computing pathways.
The Java, database (MySQL/RDBMS) and web-application concepts in Code 802 are the same fundamentals used in software development, backend programming and data management roles across the IT industry. They form a natural foundation for B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science or IT, BCA, B.Sc IT and data-oriented degrees. Students who continue in this direction can progress toward careers such as software developer, database administrator, web developer or data analyst.
